Created by bartender Harry at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris during World War I, this drink was named after a motorcycle sidecar in which an army captain was chauffeur-driven to and from the bar. The proportions of the Sidecar are firmly laid down – two parts strong, one part sweet, and one part sour. There are so many different recipes for this classic, but this is the real thing. The coupe must be ice-cold, and a sugar-coated rim is optional. Sidecar is an excellent classic aperitif cocktail, which despite having Cognac as its main element, remains sweet and tasty.

Preparation: In a shaker filled with ice, pour all ingredients and shake. Strain into a coupe and garnish with a cocktail cherry.
